Tony Tomlin

Tony is twenty-four, whip-smart, wide-eyed, and wildly out of place, and he knows it. A gay cowboy from the open plains of Wyoming, Tony came to San Francisco two years ago with little more than a duffel bag full of denim, and dreams of a life where he wouldn’t have to apologize for who he was. He still wears his flannel shirts and dusty boots like armor, even if his walk gives him away from half a block down.

He is, as he likes to say, “a swish in spurs.” Tony discovered the world of drag by accident, stumbling into a North Beach show and standing slack -jawed in the aisle until the final sequin hit the stage. That night, he met Jules Davis, and the two became fast, unlikely friends. Where Jules commands a room, Tony sneaks in through the back door looking for his next trade; where Jules is all style and structure, Tony is chaos in a cowboy hat. But somehow, the chemistry works. They balance each other Jules the mentor, Tony the mischievous little brother who never quite outgrew trouble.

Tony is exuberantly promiscuous, brazen, carnal, and almost comically sex positive. If there’s a backroom, a barstool, or a dark corner somewhere in the city, chances are Tony’s already been there or plans to. He wears his libido like a grin, fearless, unashamed, and always on the prowl. But San Francisco hasn’t always welcomed his appetites with open arms.

A few too many run-ins with the police have taught him to move with a little more discretion, but not much. He’s still out there most nights, chasing dick like a moth to flame. Tony is not a lost soul, he knows exactly who he is, even if he hasn’t figured out where he’s going.

Underneath the swagger and the sex is a boy who grew up in a place that didn’t have room for him, and who now claims space with every smirk and suggestive glance. He doesn’t perform drag, but he reveres it, he lives defiantly. And while he may not yet realize it, Tony is as much a part of this community’s revolution as anyone in heels or holding a microphone. In this city of rebirth and resistance, Tony is the unexpected heartbeat, a little reckless, a little wild, and wholly unfiltered.
